|Duffield "Duffy" J.
| Duffield J Seyller III, “Duffy”, age 68, of Harvard passed away at home surrounded
by his family on Monday morning, July 10, 2017.
Duffy was born on January 2, 1949, in Peoria, Illinois and was one of three children
born to Duffield J Seyller II and Dorothy McFarlin. He graduated from Spalding High
School in Peoria, IL and then had the opportunity to serve his country in Vietnam where
he was enlisted in the Army. Upon completion of his time served, Duffy attended
Western Illinois University where he obtained both his Bachelors Degree in Business
and his MBA. Shortly after, he was employed at Home Federal Savings in Peoria, IL
where he worked for 9 years.
In 1985 he moved to Harvard, Illinois where he was employed at Harvard Savings
Bank, later becoming Chief Executive Officer and President. During his tenure at
Harvard Savings Bank he was also a member of the Illinois League of Financial
Institutions where he served as Chairman in 2009. He retired in February of 2014 and
served on the Board of Directors until his death.
Duffy was extremely active in the community. He was a lifelong parishioner at St.
Joseph Church serving on the St. Joseph School Parent’s Club, St. Joseph Finance
and St. Joseph Pastoral Council for many years. He was also a member of and
served as President in the Harvard Lions Club.
Those that knew Duffy will remember his passion and zest for life. He was a lively
storyteller and often at the center of the action no matter the situation. Duff was the life
of any party, with a PBR in hand. He loved people and making new friends, as well as
staying connected to so many old friends. He was an avid Cardinals fan, and loved
picking fights with Cubs fans. He also loved the Chicago Bears and the Notre Dame
Fighting Irish. You could always find him in the stands cheering on his children at
Hornet sporting events. He was also an active golfer, participating in many golf
leagues throughout his life. He enjoyed his getaways in Galena and exploring new
places, with his wife. His family will miss his sense of humor and adventurous spirit.
While Duffy accomplished much to be proud of in his lifetime, he was most proud of the
family that he raised. He was a loyal and dedicated family man, and enjoyed making
his wife and children laugh.
Duffy married the love of his life, JoAnn (Strohmeyer) Seyller on August 17, 1974 in
Peoria, IL. They had 5 children Duffield (Amy) Seyller IV - Aurora, IL; Casey (Kristi)
Seyller - Harvard, IL; Molly (Coady) Adams - Whitestown, IN; Shannon (Daniel)
Skoglund - Terre Haute, IN; and Courtney Seyller - Harvard, IL. They have three
grandchildren – Jenna, Maddie, and Ella Seyller. Duffy is also survived by his sisters
Christine (Jack) Duke - Peoria, IL; and Sandy (Mike) Neese - Woodstock, IL and 10
nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Beckett Adams.
