|Charles Ray Boese, 79, of Harvard, passed away on August 8, 2017, at Centegra
Hospital in Woodstock, IL.
Charles was born on February 25, 1938, in Hebron to Harry and Ethel (Roberts) Boese.
He graduated from Harvard High School in 1956 and went on to receive a Bachelor’s
Degree in Math from Northern Illinois University in 1960. Charles later obtained a
Master’s Degree. He was a longtime math teacher at Harvard High School.
After retirement, he would volunteer as a Meals on Wheels driver. His hobbies included
collecting antiques and tending to his garden, he donated most of his vegetables to the
food pantry in Harvard. He had a passion for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago
Bears. He loved to spend time with his family and many cats. He would religiously
solve the crossword and Sudoku puzzles in the newspapers.
Charles is survived by his sons, Kent Boese of Washington, DC; and Tim (Penny)
Boese of Chandler, AZ; Grandchildren, Hannah and Laura Boese; twin sister, Charlotte
Boese Chance, and father figure to Anne Merida and a grandfather figure to her
daughter Nadia Merida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ronald Lee Boese who died in
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 14th at Saunders &
McFarlin Funeral Home, 107 W. Sumner St., Harvard, IL 60033. This will be followed
by a memorial gathering until noon at the funeral home.
